Computer Aided Design or CAD is an essential tool used in golf course design. We use CAD technology to generate plans and images which help us describe the intent of our designs to clients, consultants, and contractors.
Below is an example of a recent project where we used different CAD programs to help create our design:
| Vectorworks Landmark is the main computer program we use to generate our conceptual plans, master plans as well as construction documents such as grading, drainage, and erosion control plans. Above is an example of a grading, drainage and erosion control plan for part of the15th hole at Highland Park Golf Course. |
| Once a grading plan has been created we use a program called AGTEK Site Model 3D to calculate earthwork or cut and fill volumes. Here the same area is shown in relation to cut and fill with areas of cut in red, fill in blue and on grade areas in yellow. |
| Whether used during the design development phase, during construction or at the end of the project for promotional purposes, 3D renderings can be very valuable to depict a more real life view of the design. Shown above is a 3D rendering of the same 15th hole as viewed from the back tee. |
| Here we see the implementation of the design. This slightly magnified photo from October 2003 was taken just below the back tee prior to restoration activities. |
